This yearbook was created for Garden Grove High School for 2019-2020. This video shows a brief clip of the cover of the yearbook which is titled “Pause.” It has reflect and proceed written beneath it followed by backwards and forwards tv icons. As we flip through the pages of the book, we see the very unique page spreads that follow from page to page. Page spreads like an obsessions page, faculty page, and even a siblings page are featured within this unique yearbook. We also see a brief glimpse of the cover which is a three quarter bound lookalike. A three quarter bound is when a different material is used to wrap around the spine. In this instance, we used a different color to create that same looking effect. The cover itself is white and the spine is red.

Timeless

This image is a closeup of the top corner of a journal style yearbook. We see the connected flap rest over the cover of the yearbook. This flap has magnets embedded within it which is what makes it a journal style yearbook. We are able to see how seamless the magnets are integrated within the flap and cover of the yearbook. It is close up so we are only able to see a glimpse of the black and white cover that is displayed.
This image shows another example of a journal style yearbook, however the flap is lifted above the end sheet of the yearbook. This flap looks partially like a map with small features of a camera and polaroid resting below it. We are also able to see a small metal plate that has the name of the student, “Milo Heinrich.” Below this personalization is the title “Reflections 2020.” Beneath the flap we see the end sheet that has small stamp-like features. These “stamps” are different colors and seem very realistic but are actually made with four color printing.
This is the back cover of the Xavier High School Yearbook. The back includes the use of gold metallic ink to create beautiful paint-like flowers. We actually had to trace every line and make them into separate files in order for us to apply a separate effect called gold metallic ink. We also see a matte black background with smaller glossy mandela-like features atop it. The gold metallic flowers take center stage on the back cover of the book, pulling it all together.
This yearbook was created for Xavier College preparatory High school for the school year 2019-2020. This yearbook is unique because it opens up like a journal. The sleek black of the cover contrasts the small star-like features that have gold foil. As the yearbook is opened, the white end sheets on the inside of the cover showcase the burnt orange flowers that flow between both inner flaps of the yearbook. On the right side it has an additional flap. We have hidden two very small magnets within the flap so that it is able to close easily. On the front cover, we have also hidden a vertical magnetic strip so that when the book closes, the two magnets are propelled to one another. As the yearbook is opened, the right flap with the cascading burnt orange flowers, rests beside the rest of the yearbook.
This is the front cover of Xavier High School’s 2019-2020 yearbook. We see a matte black cover and atop it is a glossy outline of a beautiful mandela-like pattern. Under the light you can see that there are very glossy details which we were able to do because of the spot UV that was applied to all of the outlines. The sleek black of the cover contrasts the small star-like features that have gold foil. The bottom right of the flap has beautiful gold leaves that are created with gold metallic ink. The title of the yearbook “Open Wide the Doors for Christ” rests sideways on the flap.
This yearbook was done for Garden Grove High School in 2019. This is a closeup of the spine that has a three quarter bound lookalike. The spine is white whereas the cover is brown. It looks as if there was a separate material used to line the spine, but the white was done with spot UV. We see the name of the high school, along with year, and volume written against the white spine. We also see a portion of the title of the yearbook, “Unscripted” written in white cursive along the bottom of the dark cover.
This is a close up of another three quarter bound lookalike yearbook. We are only able to see the very bottom edge of the spine and cover of the yearbook. This shows how seamless the transition from the white spine to the black cover is. It’s surprising that a yearbook with such an elegant look on the spine is made using only the spot UV technique. It mimics the look of different materials being used.
Spot UV on custom matte laminated case for yearbook
This is a closeup of a yearbook that is done with a red fabric. In this image we only see the bottom detail of the fabric. We see small divots in the fabric that crease and create a unique texture on the cover of the yearbook. We are also able to see the very bottom of the yearbook pages.
Here we see a yearbook made with black fabric. The cover shows a very large number one on the left side that is made out of red foil stamping. Usually, foil is gold or silver, but this yearbook staff chose red because they wanted the 100 to represent the school color. Next to the large red one we see a medium sized font that reads “hundred” in all capital letters. Below it in smaller text it reads, “Years of Argo pride,” which is also in all capitals.
